I too fear that changing simply the $table variable may have undesired 
effects. Maybe some control variable like $pageData (meaning the record 
holds page related data).

BTW, a change in pages_language_overlay should not clear the complete cache 
for this (and related pages). It should only clear the cache for the 
affected language.
