This is what I wrote in my original post accompanying the patch:
A long time ago I have made an alternative version that doesn't use
checkboxes but drop-downs. The select boxes solves the problem that you
always force an entire option set to all pages when doing a recursive
setting. But I want to set or unset sometimes only specific flags.
So my new version has three options for each permission: <blank> no change,
"set" set the permission, "unset" remove the permission.
Currently there it is invoked by setting the edit param manually from
"&edit=1" to "&edit=2". Thus must of course be changed. Either the new
version simply replaces the old one or there is some kind of switch button
to use the new version. Or perhaps it's automatically shown when doing a
recursive setting.
Anyway, attached is the index.php of typo3/mod/web/perm for 3.8. Simply
move it into the folder. To go into select-box-mode use "open frame in new
browser" (or whatever your browser supports) and change the "1" into a "2"
(see above).
