In my opinion the only case for a change of context should be switching 
the context in a dev/test site in order to preview changes in production 
context.
So, yes, I think manual action is fine here. And with the use of the 
Environment variable one can easily modify .htaccess or bootstrap to 
activate some kind of automatism if needed.
