Commiting to trunk doesn't mean it was commited to the release branches.
 21.05 in trunk means it is in the 4.3-beta and will be in 4.3.0. But
not more.

The original bug fixer (Xavier) only provided the RFC for trunk, and I
guess it was not discussed and noone objected it to be included in
trunk-only.

So I guess you could provide the patch for 4.2 and add a new bug entry
so that it can enter 4.2 also (in the next release).
