Doesn't work for me either :-(

Tried several URLs (even one from the YouTube embed code), added a 
'video sources' (IRRE interface), enterd the URL in the 'Path or URL to 
fallback video source (Flash or QuickTime)' field, but nothing works.

The "old" (well, introduced in 4.5...) media element had a nice 
pluggable url processing API which at least managed to interpret URLs 
from many video sites correctly.

I filed a bug report for it: http://forge.typo3.org/issues/33357

IMO a show stopper :-(
