[TYPO3-mvc] encrypd cookies in TYPO3

I want to use cookies in a certain extension and am wondering if there 
are certain functions to encrypt / decrypt information.

I could use suhosin but this only works if the module is installed on 
the server. So I wandered if there is a decrypt / encrypt function 
available that uses for instance mcrypt.
