I am working on a new extension called news2 which is based on extbase
It is on forge: http://forge.typo3.org/projects/show/extension-news2

It is far from done but I am working on it and it got new concepts and
features like:
- All nice things from TYPO3 4-5 (this version is needed!) like the
Pagination widget from fluid, the new tcaTree
- Media elements (images, html, dam) as relation which has the
advantages of "no textareas for captions", no firstImageAsPreview
- Links as relations
- Features the new concept of backend layouts
- some more which I dont't remember just yet

Which features are missing:
- Good integration of video player
- Menu based on time like August 10 News, September 20 news items,...
- Translations other than German

If someone wants to cooperate, I am happy to have some more working
hands. Of course also features/bugs can be added to the forge project.
Maybe someone wants to begin a thread where people can tell those
features of tt_news they always need, those who are well done, those
which could be improved and others which are never used.
