[TYPO3-templavoila] Framework: best way to change widths of the columns

Hi,

I'm using the Framework of Ron Hall. If I have to make a website with 
non-standard widths, what is the best way to change it. I've tried to 
change the widths in the typoscript template (Constants) and the CSS. 
But after that all mappings where gone.
