[Typo3-marketing] Another marketing paper

Hi Michelle, dudes & dudchesse,

In my piece I suggest to start in each continent an TYPO3 portal where
at least -besides lots of general T3 stuff, all information about the
local/continental market can be found. Now if you search in the US you
find -apart from Mitka & Castricon Coding- only references like;
"TYPO3 is a free Open Source content management system for enterprise
purposes on the web and in intranets. ... das vielleicht erfolgreichste
(Open Source) Content Management System im deutschprachigen Raum. ..."
Well this way it really feels that you visit Europe!

So bundle the agencies, hosting facillities, references, participations
on Fairs, news, tec-news etc on one portal: www,typo3.us. Everything
with the tone-of-voice of the continent, in this case the US. It's not a
very heavy task to do and the effect will be that it already starts to
feel more American. I agree with Daniel to leave politics out but I
suggest you think out some economic psychologic marketing touch. A
slogan like 'The New Frontier in coding' or 'The New Deal in Software'
make it feel American. You know what I mean, for Christ sake hang some
Stars & Stripes on the site! ;-) Remind yourself that Honda (Akura) is
the biggest car manufacturer and seller in the US for years now. Once
the Japanese were laughed away for their Asian looking toycars but
finally economic arguments won it from American sentiment under consumers.

With this portal you give yourself an american tool that you really can
promote. You might give attention to other OSS to that people might know
like Wikipedia, Linux or even SugarCRM or Moodle. Make it look like a
force that one cannot deny anymore. Refer to worldwide numbers regarding
T3, like countries served, names of big corporations that use it (Cargil
Cerestar, VW for example), numbers of installations etc.

I still believe that LAMP based software is gaining momentum in the US.
PHP once was a dirty word, now I see all these small corps at sites like
www.64bit.us, I see IBM, Corel and others investing in OSS and giving
patents into the open. Imho it's all just a matter of time and so you/we
should just start working on the matter.

Ciao, Sander
