Hi,
although i would prefer do this exercise in french, here is my quick and dirty
proposition for the list of features and the respective advantages it gave to
the users:
I think the demo (best on live CD, is every time impressive) and the
presentation (pitch or website) should follow the same logic, you should only
adapt the examples and the focus to the level of understanding (CEO, Marketing
people or It Department), the origin/sector (public, commercial, edu) and the
time you have.
1) Control over Licence, Costs and TCO (for the CEO)
Open Source, GPL, Linux environnnment, low Hardware expectations
Workflows and user rights management let you control your information
no need for root in the hosting scenarios= cheap hosting
= good chance for a fast ROI
2) Power of the Community
Number of installations,
developpers,
registered references,
extensions,
forums,
tutorials,
multilanguage,
committes
international Typo3 association !!
= gives assurance for longlasting investment, and you are not alone with your
software and your problems
3) References, comparisons, case studies
Exemples adpted to your audience :
Examples of relevant websites
Examples of relevant ecommerces
Examples of relevant Intranets and Extranets
Examples of relevant Governemnet sites (germany has a lot
references, WAI respect,)
Examples of relevant Educational sites (Laval, paderborn,
austria, CNED, ..)
1-3 Case Studies or Comparisons relevant for your audience
= Flexibility
4) Standards, Evolution and Roadmap
Respect of standards : XML, CSS, etc....
Number of Typo3 Versions in last 3 years whith the changes of each
version
Roadmap of whats going next in Typo3 in the next 1-2 years
=secure and longlasting investment
5) Ease of use for End-Users (editors)(for me the hardest part)
easy and role based interface
lots of documentation ( Bring the 4 books in german, i'm waiting for
the english one)
Wizards
Integration into "usual" Office Tools (import, export, MS Office, etc..)
Online context sensitive Help in 40 languages
Wyswig edition of contents (edit pro is really good in demos)
orthographic correctors, etc..
easy multilingual sites
single sourcing, multi display of the same content
easy editing of Forms !
graphics manipulation tool included
=Userfriendly content editing even if you are updating a webpage every 3 month
and it's not your main business (opposite to us)
6) Ease of use for technical people (admins, developpers)
multiple architectures possible
Separate Contents from graphics from Developments
Multiplatform
Multi browser compatible (Fe and BE)
Support from the community
lots of Good technical documentations
powerfull API
no need for root in the hosting sceanrios= cheap hosting
fast development
=
7) Modularity and Flexibility
multiple architectures possible
separate Be and FE
Extension Manager
lots of Extensions
API
Typo3 has been used in very different environnemnts
8) Security
Opensource - lots of installations gives you less bugs and security
alerts
Backup
Ldap integration
very good user rights management
Separate FE and BE
Workflowsw
=puts you in control of your information
9) Scalability, Multiplatform
Separate FE and BE

Load Balancing
Cluster
PHP accelerators
Case study of scalability (Smile did one in France)
=?
10) Online-Marketing friendly and interface Designer friendly(for the marketing
department)
online statistics included
Search engines friendly
dynamic flash files (wow!!)
Golive integration
freedom for the design(not another php nuke site)
graphics manipulation tool
DAM
editors cannot change the nice layout, the designer made
= Typo3 is not only a techie tool, but lets creative people be creative
