[TYPO3-linux] can't select database in install tool

Hi Marcus

Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

I was glad to have your advice because I had more or less concluded on a similar course of action. One of the challenges of the situation is that I can no longer run the older versions of Typo3 on the shared server, because it just got upgraded to PHP 5.5.

So I will now install a WAMP package locally with the same version of Typo3 as the old installation then use the backup files and database to try and get the old site running locally. At the same time I will check that I can do a clean install of 6.2 on the shared web server. Then I will try upgrading locally to 6.2. If that works then I should be able to put it back out on the live server.

Symlinks?
Yes, all symlinks as you mentioned. (Have been using symlinks like that for many years now.)

I will let you know how it works out, but it might take a few days as this incident came up at a very bad time and I have other things that need attention.

Cheers,
-Darryl

Hi Darryl,

usually I do upgrades in a separate web space. If possible, you should
try to archive both sites (tar / mysqldump) and install them inside any
other webspace or, which I prefer, a local VM. This allows you to set
Typo3 and php as verbose as possible and examine all log files if
needed. After you've upgraded, you can then re-upload the site.
As far as the symlink warning is concerned - are you sure that your web
root looks like that?

index.php -> typo3_src/index.php
typo3 -> typo3_src/typo3
typo3_src -> typo3_src-x.x.x

Cheers,
Marcus

Also strange to be getting the symlink warning in the install tool when everything is as it should be with symlinks (and has been for the last 15 years or so).
