[TYPO3-linux] Trying to install IM 6 to generate proper watermarked jpgs

Hi.

I worked with the compiled Version of IM 4.2.9 and everything was fine.
Now I am using the GIFBUILDER in the gallery to generate jpgs with a 
watermark in it but it gets rendered down to 256 colors. I read that I 
dont have the color problem with highter IM versions and tried to 
install the newest version but typo3 doesnt find it.

Our site is hosted on a unix server but i use windows myself so I am not 
very skillful with linux and up until now everything was fine.
Also I dont have the rights to compile anything on my server...

Are there any known problems with IM 6.2.5?
Should I use a lower version?
