[TYPO3-linux] extension manager not working correctly

Good evening...

 

I've installed typo3 4.0 for the first time, and can't seem to get the
extension manager to work correctly.  I have previously worked with 3.80
and 3.81 on both windows and linux installations, and have never had
this problem before.  I am running this install on a private web server
(not available to the outside world), and when I try to look up
extensions from TER2, I get the following error:

 

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in
/var/www/html/typo3_src-4.0/typo3/mod/tools/em/class.em_xmlhandler.php
on line 112

 

If I up the script execution timeout to 120 seconds (php.ini), I am able
to get some listings from TER2, but they appear to be old ones.  For
example, only one templavoila version comes up, and it's 0.4.0 (Alpha, I
believe).  Nothing else.  Very weird.  I am running 3.81 on the same
webserver with the same configuration and it finds extensions with no
problem and very quickly.

 

I have run all of the install tool checks, and have configured the
system to my satisfaction (or so I think!).  I even went so far as to
download source from another mirror and try that, just in case something
had come down incorrectly.  (I know, I know - but what can you do?)  

 

Any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.
