[Typo3-linux] GDLib seems fine in installtool but graphical menu on testsite fails!

hello all,
I'm very new to Linux, but am acquainted with using Typo3 as an editor.
Now I want to create a site of my own on a new machine, so I installed a
WhiteBox Enterprise Linux box and put the Typo3 Testsite package on it.
I ran into different problems, but seem to have solved all but one: the
GDLib... The PHP was compiled with --gd=shared ; I installed GD via yum.
When I test the graphics rendering via the install tool, everything seems to
go quite well. There only 1 issue and that's in "Image Processing -->
Scaling images", where the white backgroup is kept in GIF to GIF and PNG to
PNG.
The only warning that is given on "Image Processing --> GD Library
Functions" is:
GIF compressing in GDLib
Your GDLib appears to have RLE compression
This assessment is based on the filesize from 'Create image from file'
test, which were 17002 bytes
If the image was LZW compressed you would expect to have a size of
less than 9000 bytes. If you open the image with Photoshop and saves it from
Photoshop, you'll a filesize like that.
The good news is (hopefully) that your [GFX][im_path_lzw] path is
correctly set so the gif_compress() function will take care of the
compression for you!
When I go to the testsite and to "The Original" testsite, the graphical menu
is not rendered...
What can be wrong??
best regards,
Nicolas
