[Typo3-linux] Parse error: parse error, unexpected $

no it didn't.

Strange. This line contains a simple if() condition and is definitely
correct.

I suppose it could be a problem with your copy, so try to upload the file
again to see if it works. (Note that t3lib/ exists twice, copy it to both
places!)
