It does not seem to me like writing a wrapper script is a solution to this problem -- we do not know if this controlled situation will be the same as other times that ImageMagick is called ... and also this should be a problem for the developer(s) to fix. ImageMagick 5.7.x is the current release, why he would recommend users to install 4.x.x which came out in 1999! I think is rediculous. If the current release is unusable, as he hints at in the configuration screens -- then find and use another image manipulation program, or require the current version at all times. It is not feasable to require a modern peice of software to have a dependancy that is four years old. Four years in the GNU/Linux world is a lifetime.

Same thing goes for him recommending GDlib 1.x.x, which is also extremely old.

Same thing as well for him recommending that GIF always be used, even though it is a proprietary format which is not freely usable. If a commercial web site were to be using GIF they could have Unisys after them if they felt like it. Besides that, all modern web browsers (and many older ones as well) can view PNG images with no troubles. I think it is Netscape 2 or 3+, MSIE 3 or 4+ and all versions of Opera have PNG support.

Today is the last day I am able to work on trying to get Typo3 running. I have a fairly large project which I need to get running in a CMS immediately. It is a project aimed at getting school children involved with reducing their impact on the environment, using positive and enjoyable ways. As I said previously, I have been trying for a week to get Typo3 working, and there just seems to be many fundemental flaws in how it is built on all these outdated libraries. If it weren't for the active typo3.org web site it would appear the the project had just died long ago.

A modern CMS certainly isn't useful if it can't be run on a modern operating system.
