sorry, Michael, being stupid here...I never managed to convince
MozillaNews to open these msg_id's - how do I access them? (...another
newsreader or a way to find/access them in the archives?)

Mozilla treats them as mail addresses...

a) missing gif-support in gdlib
b) no correctly working ttf-support in shipped freetype
c) cutting down my timetable AND costs AND nerves spent on all that
using a great script that does everything I usually do manually (which
won't work here on the 8.2 system shipped with the buggy gcc-3.3beta,
anyway)
d) SuSE packages generally not being very cleverly designed, they tend
to break things from one version to the next
e) the customer wanting a SuSE server - I know I _could_ be using Debian...
f) having used LL's script dozens of times successfully, before...

So, IMO, it's a question of freedom of choice and flexibility - and I
honour Lars for doing his work on automating the installation.

But never mind, I'll just drop the customer's idea of using the
top-notch 8.2 distri in favour of the good old 8.1 where all of this
works flawlessly.
btw: SuSE's support sucks big-time. They transferred my basically simple
question to their 019$$$$$$$-hotline, and these folks didn't even
understand _why_ I (and hundreds of other people, according to some
heavy discussion on the usenet) definitely need a working compiler.
There have even been reports that people can't compile a stock kernel on
SuSE 8.2 - you get the idea....

thx anyway,
Chris

p.s. it's too hot here, anyway ;)
