[Typo3-linux] gdlib php fatal error

hello newsgroup,

my system:
suse 8.1 minimal, gdlib 1.8.3 with gif, php 4.3.2 ,apache 1.3.28

i have on a testsystem typo3.5b5 installiert and i have with older versions 
nver problem. at the time i have php 4.0.6 and 4.2.1 and apache 1.3.26

now i see under install - image processing - gdlib functions :
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: imagegif() in 
/usr/local/toolbox/apache/apache_1.3.28/htdocs/typo3/typo3_src-3.5b5/t3lib/class.t3lib_stdgraphic.php
