Bei mir funktioniert es unter 4.5.6 im Setup mit:
plugin.tx_rgsmoothgallery_pi1._LOCAL_LANG.default.textShowCarousel = Pictures 
plugin.tx_rgsmoothgallery_pi1._LOCAL_LANG.de.textShowCarousel = Vorschaubilder
