Well, you need to ensure your XML (.xlf is a XML format) is valid. You
have the same problem with HTML where you should not write a single
ampersand without "encoding" it. Unfortunately, browsers are much too
kind and fix everything.

However I agree that a better error handling should be integrated, just
as when dealing with missing files and FAL relations.
