[TYPO3-english] automatic @2x images (for responsive design or retina-displays)?

Does anyone know about a configuration or extension which will provide 
not only the normal images as rendered with TYPO3 but also, as 
alternative, other resolutions of images, so you can have crispy 
pictures even with retina display, without need of too much 
transfervolume with low bandwith connections?

but that also needs to render bigger pictures than used on the website.
