 Hello Sivaprasad, 

most Linux distribution come with iptables which is a very effective 
firewall.  Here are some docs for iptables with Gentoo 
http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Iptables_for_newbies 

There are plenty other ressources on the net on how to set up iptables to 
limit the rates of connexions per IP to prevent DoS and DDos attacks. 

P.S. dont play with iptables on a live server unless you know exactly what 
your doing - you can lock yourself out
