[TYPO3-english] Clearing cache_extentions in typo3 DB

Hallo list,

Me and my colleague just got into some database investigation, and we 
noticed on allot of our websites that the table cache_extentions has 
allot of records.

Now we have checked the install tool but we couldn't find an option to 
clear this table. all the other "cache_" tables could be cleared, except 
this one. On a test website we did clear it manualy (Trough phpmyadmin). 
and it didn't seem to infect the website(wich seemed logical with cache).

Our question:
Is there an easy way to clear this table? i did some googling but still 
couldn't find out the best way to deal with this cache?
