I think first the author should check that he uses the latest version. This feature was tested when it was implemented. I looked into the code and it is still there. So there are two possibilities:
- it is broken
- the used RealURL version is too old

So the author should first check if he is using the latest version. If yes, than a bug report should be creates with RealURL configuration attached.
