[Typo3] tt_news displaying problem

I need to display the 3 latest news like this:

.                                            .
.                 news1                      .
.                                            .
..............................................
.                     .                      .
.                     .                      .
.       news2         .        news3         .
.                     .                      .
..............................................

i don't know how to do this.
I know to chose the 3 latest news, they will be
diplayed like this:

news1
news2
news3

I think i need to have acces at those news separately,
i meen at the first latest news and at the 2 & 3
latest news.
I tryed to do this whith select, but i haven't
succeded. And with select i think that, when I write
the line "table=tt_news" inside select,typo3 take this
like "page.10<tt_news" (i don't know to explain
properly the last phrase in english, i hope i can be
understood).
Please give me some clues!!!
