[Typo3] Only one top level element is allowed in an XML document

I have installed typo3 3.7 and everything was going well until I installed 
the chc forum plug-in. I am now getting the message:

Only one top level element is allowed in an XML document

I have removed chc forum but this has not fixed the problem. Can anyone 
provide any help on how I should go about finding out what the problem is?
