i would fully not agree to this.

most of the core devs in v5 get paid by the TYPO3 Asssociation.

where as you might be right on the most part of core dev work is unpaid. 
on the other side core devs are subject to be hired a lot by TYPO3 aware 
clients. where as TYPO3 agency spend their money on sponsoring and 
marketing.

as Kasper said at T3CON 2011: People have several reasons to contribute 
to the TYPO3 Opensource ecosystem.

i would really like to detach this discussion from the extbase dilemma 
thingy (sound like a "big bang theory episode") and invite you to 
discuss this at T3DD2011 in an open panel.
