Are you talking about the categories: Backend, Backend Modules, 
Frontend, Frontend Plugins, Miscellaneous, Services?

Or has it something to do with the categories mentioned at this page:
http://wiki.typo3.org/index.php/Extensionscategories

Either way - it isn't something that helps me searching for a specific 
kind of extension right now, right?
