Well - if this is the logic behind your decisions against one of the most
powerful things TYPO3 has to offer:
One of the worst things about PHP is that is so unique/obscure/specific and
you have to learn it - lets get rid of it and use C instead.
And as we are already on the way, lets drop C and do everything in hexcodes.
But wait - you would have to learn hexcodes too!
If people who invented PHP had thought the same way, you wouldn't have
something like TYPO3 today.
Same thing with smarty, or is it something you don't have to learn?
IMHO you don't need common things but a USP to position your product on the
market.
Nothing against some extensions to use things like smarty in addition but
TypoScript should definitely stay the standard.
So lets improve it, like Dan already did with ObTS, instead of thinking
about ways to get rid of it.
Maybe in a few years people think about how to implement TypoScript into
their products because it's so unique/specific/powerful.
