My thesis:

* Developers are more used write code in programming language than
writing documentation in natural language. They have more
experience/routine in writing program code than natural language.
* Developers use IDE, which supports writing program code (e.g.
autocomplete). They don't have these tools for writing natural language.
* Code is functional and can be tested (works <-> does not work).
Natural language can't be tested (only proof-read).
* Documentation is rather abstract, while program code is concrete.
* You will rather find code snippets in the web than documentation
snippets.
* Developers work routine is shaped by customer projects demands. How
often did you hear this statement: "We don't need/pay for documentation".

last but not least:
* Writing code means solving problems <-> Writing documentation means
explaining problem solutions. Solving problems gives higher gratification.
