I'm not sure you HAVE to see a lawyer about this, but I AM sure you
should not write any explanations to them, because every sentence you
write might be misunderstood or used against you.
Just state that the trip was "private" and you mistakenly marked the
wrong checkbox on the first form. That basically tells it all!
It's pretty much the same with insurance in Germany: If you happen to
have an accident on your way to work or back home, or during your
working hours, the public insurance expects your
company/business-insurance to pay for that.
In the case of T3BOARD there is not much discussion about being a
private or business-event, because a) you paid for it yourself, b) you
didn't go there to see a client or do marketing and c) snowboarding is
so much off-nerd-topic that it shouldn't have to be explained.
So: Relax, they'll pay.
