OTOH, TYPO3 has a nice fallback mech (eg pt_BR=>pt=>en), which gettext lacks.

And gettext isn't really easy to use and you need it installed on the 
devlopers machine to create the binary files and so on. I think it's in a 
PHP enviroment ony a hassle.
