I recently talked with Derick Rethans and Tobias Schlitt about it at  
the PHP conference and they are aware of the problem. However, it's  
not a one-fits-all decision, so they used a lot of magic in the  
ezConsoleTools for example.

But in the end it's not that important if others do that - it's  
important if we like it or not ;-)
