Who cares for the looks? It works, whether it looks choppy or not! :)

The choice of DocBook is for the sake of semantics, plus you can 
generate loads of output formats. You can use whatever editor you like 
to edit it, no need to use XMLEditor - although it's the best tool we 
found for free. YMMV, of course.

There is a Wiki using DocBook internally, that might be an option, but I 
doubt it is as comfortable as a real validating XML editor ever can be. 
And we want fully valid, semantically rich markup.

If you need more reasons, search for background on the PHP guys using 
DocBook, I think I saw a nice explanation there once. Or search the 
TYPO3 documentation team newsgroup/mailing list archives, it was 
discussed there more than once.


Finally: Do you have any good reasons against using DocBook, aside from 
a choppy editor?
