I think that this is still open for TYPO3 5.0 - but that mainly depends
on someone else coming up with a good alternative.

As I am concerned (and I also speak for Karsten, Sebastian and some
others I think) I'm 90% sure that this is the right direction and we're
already putting quite some effort into planning into that direction.

At the PHP conference in Frankfurt I spoke with some people about that
idea and noone doubts that if it works out technically, such a PHP based
content repository would be a really useful component and would change
the way how we PHP developers work with content.

The reason why I don't say I'm 100% sure is that we have too few
experience with actually trying it yet. During the next months we will
see if a TYPO3 CR is just a nice dream or could become reality.

Tomorrow I will meet with Karsten again and I hope that we'll manage to
create a little video podcast about the last weeks work. We created a
project site, some initial documentation and even some code we'd like to
present to you. But more tomorrow ...

Yes, that's true for the Jackrabbit / JavaBridge part, but someone who
would like to help out with the PHP6 part is still welcome. Karsten
managed to compile PHP6 on his Mac yesterday, but for example only
without MySQL support ...
