[FLOW3-general] "Imagine" Package

Hi folks,

afaik the git.typo3.org-hosted "Imagine" wrapper package 
(http://git.typo3.org/FLOW3/Packages/Imagine.git) is only used by the 
TYPO3.Media package.
Since imagine/imagine is a packagist repository: 
https://packagist.org/packages/imagine/Imagine (and typo3/imagine 
requires this composer-wise anyways); can't this package be dropped at all?
Means: couldn't the TYPO3.Media composer.json just
"require": {
   "typo3/flow":"*",
   "imagine/imagine":"*"
}

in order to just skip the Imagine wrapper package?
