Hi Karsten,

I was just writing my mail when you replied.

Is there a special reason why you want to use xampp instead of the 
default ubuntu packages?
I would recommend to use 1 version, so use either the xampp 
installation, or use the Ubuntu shipped packages.
(I've downloaded xampp, and it looks like it also has a php binary 
available in /xampplocation/bin/php)
