Hello Claudio,

As I understand your ISP is running on Windows with IIS (Internet Information
Server). Which version dosn't matter, the problem is exactly the same for
Windows 2000 with IIS 5, XP with IIS 5.1 and Windows Server 2003 with IIS 6.

To get Typo3 to work, even to get the Install tool up and running the correct
permissions has to be set (even so on Linux with Apache).

The following catalogs need write, read and execute (maybe also change) permissions
for the user IUSR_<machinename>.
- fileadmin
- fileadmin/_temp/
- typo3temp
- typo3conf
- typo3conf/ext/
- typo3/ext/
- uploads/pics/
- uploads/media/
- uploads/tf/

Why!. Because the different php-script in Typo3 needs to write to these catalogs.
In Windows and IIS (as far as I know), the user used when logged in from
web is IUSR_<machinename>.

If you don't have the opportunity to change permission, or the ISP won't
do it, you can't get Typo3 working on Windows/ISS. Period!!

My advice will then be, change your ISP to one with Linux/Debian as OS. They
give you the opportunity to setting the right permissions, either via shell
or ftp. I will also advice you to try Typo3 on your home machine, and learn
the important stuff before you put your site out on the web. Same advice
if you find an other system more suitable.

I have installed Typo3 on 4 different Windows Machines(XP, Server 2003),
and I never got it working without the right permissions.

Typo3 is a complex and feature-rich Content Managment System. Maybe the only
Open Source system who can compete with commersial Enterprise system with
lisence fee from ? 10 000 and upwards. It takes some time to learn it and
understand how it works. But if you take you the time, you have a fantastic
system.

But if you only going to make your own website, maybe you should look at
Mambo or other systems who is considered easier.

WBR,
Erik Svendsen
