Yes and no. We need to think within and outside the box here. Ideally 
both The Association and independent marketing practices will be needed 
for long term stable growth. I like thinking outside the box myself... 
boy, I hate that term. All we need is logic + creativity ;)

Maybe we could focus on this order: installation > setup > content 
editor training > administrator training > extension sponsorship?

That leads us back to http://typo3.org/about/sites-made-with-typo3/

Currently we have 445 ecommerce sites to sift through manually but 
you're right, there are relatively fewer US ecommerce sites. However 
they do exist like http://www.circman.com

English sites like http://www.maniagocutlery.com could also be used for 
presentation purposes.
