+1 after reading and testing (on the 1.1 branch). Huge improvement, this 
is a must!

This will also do a lot of good to the "file_usage" field which uses the 
same methods.

This obviously does not belong to this patch. While I agree with it and 
I don't think it can cause any harm, I still feel that it belongs to a 
different RFC.
