People who can use patch might maybe also be able to rebase a changeset
to a current head by using git :-)
It was a partially rethorical questions not to ask "what would normal
people do" (use patch, since it's the tool of choice for patching) but
"how should it be done to be as easy as needed" (where ideas like the
tarball come in).
