Ok , as I said my expectations where a bit different but more and more I 
think that the way how "after:field" and "before:field" deal with the 
palettes is quite ok to get good results.

Let's see how the feedback for 4.5 is and we'll see if my assumptions 
where (hopefully) wrong or not.
