It seems 'version' is also used in:
typo3/sysext/cms/tslib/class.tslib_fe.php (lines 3298,4514,4520)
typo3/sysext/cms/tslib/media/scripts/example_keepRollover.js (lines 41,46)

Is this still needed? Or also workarounds for ancient browsers which can 
be dropped?
