[TYPO3-dam] Virtual/non-local/URL based media in DAM

Hello,


I do have the same question as it was asked two years ago[1]:
Is it possible to add media files to the DAM that are not locally
available and where only the URL is known?
Adding them to DAM should automatically fetch meta data from the URL and
generate i.e. thumbnails.

This is useful if you'd want to equip a html5/flash video player with
videos that are hosted elsewhere.

If it's currently not possible; would it be possible to add such a
thing to DAM - without rewriting everything?
