[TYPO3-dam] What about not deleting files when DAM records are deleted?

+1 for this idea!

The mechanism could be something as simple as storing the trashed file 
in some archive format (.tar or .zip without compression) which supports 
storing the original path.

This could also be a solution for versioning, maybe?
