Field media_type in tx_dam is what defines the type of the file.
Take a look at the arrays defined in /lib/tx_dam_types.php, I think they
will answer your question.

Did you define them in the arrays as well?

I think the manual recommends dam_index and dam_ttcontent. The rest
depends on your use.
