[TYPO3-dam] external thumbnails for PDF files

Hi Lukas,

sry that I have to say: no, at least not at the moment.

there have been discussions (ok - to be precise: i mention it every now 
and then ;) ) that it might be an idea to rework thumbs.php and related 
(the ones who create and display thumbnails) to a services based 
approach. this might give a handle to grab to show thumbnails in the way 
you are asking for, but it needs some coding to be done on both sides - 
core and dam, communication and therefore: time.

its on some lists for DAM 1.2 but atm: no chance since thumbnails are 
done via calls to core api functions.
