I'm not sure what you mean by "make the necessary categories". Whether 
it is meant to "create them" or "use existing to put images into them". 
Thus I reword it like this:

I would greatly appreciate this better dam_catedit and would even go a 
step further and allow categories to be created on the fly when 
encountered in the IPTC.
