AFAIK 4.2.9 was recommended at a point in time where IM5 was rather 
unstable. I haven't a single site running with IM 4.2.9. Most run with 
IM6+ and some with GM.

It's always worth trying to support both older and newer versions, but 
if it's too much effort, it's not worth it.
