Last week Sebastian and me gave it another try to integrate the
bidirectional MM handling into the core. In order to get an easier and
smaller patch, we wrote a version without the insert and matchfields, so
you'd have to create a new MM table for each different match-string.

Have a look at the patch attached to the following bug:
http://bugs.typo3.org/view.php?id=4140

Would that be sufficient for what the DAM needs, or are the
insert/matchfields conceptionally necessary for the DAM?
